The Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) continues to direct its members to refuse overtime. While there is no specific contract language allowing or restricting Saskatoon Transit from hiring casual, temporary or part time operators, it is the subject of an outstanding ATU grievance. At this time Saskatoon Transit is not hiring casual, temporary or part time operators.
Saskatoon Transit has made every attempt to mitigate the effects of operators not accepting overtime, but ATU job action has forced Saskatoon Transit to operate with limited resources during afternoon and evening service today. As a result, Saskatoon Transit has been forced to remove some overflow service which may impact the following routes:
Regular Routes Impacted:
Route 2 leaving the Downtown Terminal between 3:44 p.m. and 4:16 p.m. may experience a high volume of passengers, which could result in a full buses.
Route 4 traveling to Willowgrove at 3:50 p.m. may experience a high volume of passengers, which could result in a full bus.
Route 7 leaving Confederation Terminal traveling to City Centre at 3:46 p.m. may experience a high volume of passengers, which could result in a full bus.
Route 12 may experience a high volume of passengers around 4:00 p.m. which could result in full buses.
Route 17 Stonebridge may experience a high volume of passengers between 4:21 p.m. and 4:48 p.m. which could result in full buses.
Route 18 traveling to Centre Mall at 4:30 p.m. may experience a high volume of passengers, which could result in a full bus.
Route 20 South Industrial Special leaving Melville Street and Brand Road at 5:06 p.m. has been cancelled.
Route 23Â traveling from Confederation Mall at 4:24 p.m. and arriving at the Shaw Centre at 4:35 p.m. has been cancelled. Route 23 mayexperience a high volume of passengers between 3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. which could result in full buses.
Route 45 Kenderdine / City Centre may experience a high volume of passengers between 4:37 p.m. and 6:14 p.m. which could result in a full buses.
Route 50 leaving Place Riel for Lakeview at 4:21 p.m. may experience a high volume of passengers, which could result in a full bus.
Route 60 traveling to Confederation Mall at 4:14 p.m. may experience a high volume of passengers, which could result in a full bus.
Route 82 Briarwood traveling to Centre Mall between 2:44 p.m. and 4:08 p.m. may experience a high volume of passengers, which could result in full buses.
Route 84 traveling to Briarwood from Centre Mall at 3:24 p.m. may experience a high volume of passengers, which could result in a full bus.
School Extra Routes Impacted:
Route 311 and 331 servicing Holy Cross, Walter Murray and Aiden Bowman at 3:24 p.m. and 3:28 p.m. have been cancelled. Students at Aiden Bowman will be required to use the Route 17, students are Holy Cross and Walter Murry should use the Route 81. These routes may experience a high volume of passengers resulting in full buses.
Route 335 servicing Walter Murray starting at 3:35 p.m. has been cancelled. Students will be required to use Route 81, which may experience a high volume of passengers resulting in full buses.
Route 339 Bethlehem & Douglas High Schools at 3:35 p.m. has been cancelled. Students will be required to use Route 23 which may experience a high volume of passengers resulting in full buses.
Route 341 servicing Bedford Road Collegiate, E.D. Feehan Catholic High School, Mount Royal Collegiate at 3:30 p.m. has been cancelled.Students will be required to use Route 5 and Route 2 which may experience a high volume of passengers resulting in full buses.
Route 346 servicing Westview, Dundonald and JA MacDonald at 3:25 p.m. has been cancelled. Students will be required to use Route 23, Route 60 and Route 7, which may experience a high volume of passengers resulting in full buses.
Route 356 servicing Bishop James Mahoney High School and Marion M. Graham Collegiate at 3:35 p.m. has been cancelled. Students will be required to use Route 35 which may experience a high volume of passengers resulting in full buses.
If riders are not able to board a bus because it is full they will be required to wait for the next bus.
Saskatoon Transit will continue to keep customers informed by issuing service alerts when made aware of any disruptions or delays. Service alerts can be viewed at saskatoontransit.ca, saskatoon.ca, on Twitter at @stoontransit or @YXEserviceAlert, through Transit App and in Google Transit.
Transit administration may not be aware of all immediate job action but will make efforts to inform the public of delays or disruptions as the information is made available. During such times Saskatoon Transit will make every attempt to maintain an appropriate level of service based on the resources available, but may be forced to minimize service if required.Â
Individuals who do not have access to the internet can call the Transit Customer Service line at 306-975-3100 but are reminded that wait times may be longer than normal due to job action or higher than normal call volumes.
Access Transit is an essential service, and will continue operating as normal.
