TREATY SIX TERRITORY AND HOMELAND OF THE MÉTIS NATION (Saskatoon, SK)  March 1, 2022:
mâc îpayiwin (Hunting on Horseback), Consisting of pieces from Wanuskewin’s permanent art collection, this exhibition will explore the longstanding relationship between Indigenous peoples and horses. Contrasting with film footage of Hollywood Westerns that helped to strengthen the settler narrative of the warrior on horseback, these pieces depict the strong kinship between horses and Indigenous peoples, and their shared history of being forced out of their lands and abused into subservience. This exhibition brings the question of representation versus reality into play, and will make visitors question the history they thought they knew. This show features works by Henry Beaudry, Carol Grigg, Michael Lonechild.

This exhibition is curated by Olivia Kristoff, and runs from March – June 2022, 2022 in our East Gallery.  Wanuskewin is open Tuesday to Sunday 10am to 5pm.

In our Interpretive Centre we are pleased to host “Exploring CQ: A Journey Through the 10 Cultural Clusters”. Created by Cultural Intelligence Facilitator Wilbur Sargunaraj, the exhibit explores cultural intelligence (CQ) and sets up interesting questions for viewers to answer on their own. (Cultural Intelligence, or CQ, is an academically recognized way of assessing and improving effectiveness in culturally diverse situations.)

The exhibit features photographs taken by Sargunaraj during his journeys to different countries within the cultural clusters. The photos are paired with information panels explaining CQ, the four CQ capabilities, the 10 cultural clusters, and the 10 cultural values.
